FAQs
DEMOS
I'm getting a Basic inclusion but my demo runs 68 seconds and I don't want to cut it back to :60. What do I do?
Choose the Premium 1 option instead. It allows your demo to be as long as 90 seconds. And with Premium 1, you can also have a Half-size display ad at no extra charge if you wish. Design service is only $45; an outside pro graphic designer would charge you several times that for the same ad.
I'm bilingual, what are my options?
You can include samples of your work in both languages within one demo by using a Basic inclusion, or you can get two demo slots by choosing Premium 2. By going with Premium 2, your allowable length for each demo increases from :60 to :90. Plus you get a display ad at no extra charge and free design service to create the ad, as well as the Credits option at no extra cost.
If you're including two (or more) languages in one demo and using the Basic inclusion, you need to select your "primary" language, which is where you will be found on the site. As examples, you can be SPANISH FEMALE, or SPANISH MALE, or PORTUGUESE FEMALE, etc. But the fact that you work in one or more other languages (other than your primary) will be clearly noted in your profile.
By choosing a Premium inclusion option which gives you more than one demo slot, if you are running a demo in one language and a second demo in another language, you will actually be listed twice on the site. For example, as both a SPANISH FEMALE talent and an ENGLISH FEMALE talent. This means users searching for talents working in either language will see you listed as "primary" in that language with each demo.
If you're running two demos, for two separate languages, you can still have examples of the other language in each demo. But each demo should start with a sample of the primary language. If, for example, your second demo is listed as SPANISH FEMALE, it should start off with a Spanish sample before any other language sample is heard.
I have several demos, because I prefer not to use a single all-purpose reel. And being able to present an all-commercial reel, along with an all-narration reel, and an all-characters reel, is how I prefer to market myself. What are the options?
If you wish to run two demos, go with Premium 2 inclusion. If you wish to run three, go with Premium 3. And, by going with Premium 4, you can run up to four separate demos. And in each of these, the multiple demos can be as long as 90 seconds each. You'll also be able to label them on the site to identify what the nature of each demo is (such as 'NARRATION'). And remember, going Premium allows you to have a display ad at no extra charge. And, get free design service for the ad using Premium 2, 3 and 4. Plus the Credits option comes free with all Premium 2, 3 and 4.
What are the choices for labeling my demos?
GENERAL
COMMERCIAL
NARRATION
CHARACTERS
AUTOMOTIVE
INDUSTRIAL
BROADCAST
SINGING
(PLUS SEVERAL LANGUAGE NAMES IF RUNNING MORE THAN ONE DEMO AND YOU INDICATE YOU DO VOs IN THAT OTHER LANGUAGE)
I have several demos, but they're all commercials. One reel is retail, one is hard-sell, one is warm and fuzzy. If I get a Premium 3 and run all three demos, can they all be labeled as COMMERCIAL?
Yes. All three or four of your demos can be labeled COMMERCIAL. Unfortunately it is not possible to create any customization to the site's labeling, such as COMMERCIALS 1, COMMERCIALS 2, AUTOMOTIVE COMMERCIALS, etc.
What does the BROADCAST label refer to?
It refers to any of the following: radio station imaging, radio or TV station/network promos, radio or TV station/network show opens/closes/bumps.
It does not refer to radio show airchecks where you are the talent on the air. Voiceover demos should not contain airchecks of music or talk show hosting.
What if I have a reel of my work doing audio books? Is there no label for that?
Samples of things such as audio books, telephone IVR, industrial applications such as the voice of a toy, the voice of a robot at a trade show, or the announcement voice on a tram or commuter train, can go in either INDUSTRIAL or NARRATION.
How does VoiceOver Miami know which of my VO demos is COMMERCIAL, and which is NARRATION, and so forth?
We request that you label the file accordingly prior to uploading it or emailing it.
If I want to run a demo that I used in the past on VoiceOver Miami, do I need to upload it or email it anyway? Do you still have it?
We still have the digital copy of nearly every demo that's ever been run aboard VoiceOver Miami in our more than two decades of life, CD package and website. Just click RERUN PREVIOUS on the step that asks the source of your demo; it's not your most-recent 'previous' one, contact us and tell which one you have in mind.
How can I add, delete or swap out a demo or demos on the site once I'm already aboard?
First, you can make a change in your demo up to four times a year. If you are new to the site, your initial demo counts as one. Igf you are renewing and replacing your demo at renewal, that also counts as one of the four.
Second, if you are getting either Premium 2, 3 or 4, where you can run more than one demo, you can or subtract demos. For example, if you get Premium Two, which allows for two demos, but you only have one ready at renewal or initial registration time, you can come back later at any time during the year to add the other. This does not count as a change. You can also come back later and delete one of your demos if you wish. This is also not considered a change. As long as you are adding to, or deleting from, your entitled) demo slots, it's not considered a change.
I have a video compilation of voiceovers I've done for TV commercials. Instead of just running the audio of this as a VO demo, I would like to run it as a video demo. Can I do that, or is video just for on-camera work?
Yes, you can use the video demo option, offered on Premium 3 and Premium 4 for TV voiceovers. Your video clip does not have to be on-camera work.
Does using the video demo option in Premium 3 and Premium 4 count as one of the total number of demos slots available?
Yes. Premium 3 offers 3 slots, so you could run your video demo plus two regular audio VO demos. Premium 4 offers 4 slots, so you could run your video demo plus three regular audio VO demos.
If I go with either Premium 3 or Premium 4 to get the video option, am I required to use all the available slots for my audio demos? What if I have the video, plus just one regular audio VO demo?
You can decide how many demos you wish to run, and you need not fill all the slots offered in each Premium inclusion. As examples: You want to go with Premium 2 to get the free 'Half-size' display ad and free ad design, but you only have one demo; you can just run the one demo. You want to go with Premium 3 to get the free 'Two-thirds' display ad and free ad design, but only have one demo; you can just run the one demo. You want to go with Premium 4 to get the free 'Full-size' display ad and free ad design and video, but only have one VO demo; you can just run the one VO demo (plus the video demo). Or any number equal to, or fewer than, the slots offered.
Does the video demo count as one of the total demos?
Yes. There are a max of three demo PLAY buttons that go with the Premium 3, so if you are running video, the PLAY button for it takes up one of the buttons. That leaves two buttons that can be assigned to regular audio VO demos. Same with Premium 4, using video leaves three buttons that can be assigned to regular audio VO demos.
How long can the video demo be?
Two minutes.
At what size does it play back?
The video will play in the space where the display ad goes. If there is an ad there, the ad will disappear temporarily until the video is complete, or turned off with the STOP button. In Premium 3, the ad/video space is 425 x 275 pixels. In Premium 4, it is 425 x 425 pixels. Depending on how your video is formatted, there will be black bars surrounding it ('letter-boxing') to account for the aspect ratio differences between your video and the playback space.
What file formats for video can I use?
We can accept your video as either .MP4, .MOV, .WMV or . AVI.
3-PAY
How does the 3-Pay work?
This is a convenience option available to all talents who use either Visa, MasterCard or Discover. It lets you break your inclusion cost into thirds, spreading it out over more than just one credit card billing cycle. The first installment is charged when you register, the second is charged 30 days later, and the last one is charged 30 days after that. If you want the 3-Pay, just select it on the payment screen.
What's the extra $10 for when using 3-Pay?
Being able to process credit cards is very expensive for a small operator like VoiceOver Miami. There are fees on top of fees, plus monthly assessments, annual assessments, and any other costs and deductions that the fertile mind of the processing company can think of to extract more money out of us, the merchant. Some of these costs apply specifically to each given transaction. So the 3-Pay plan, while a benefit to the VoiceOver Miami talents, adds significantly to the discounts we pay to the processor for the ability to accept plastic. The ten dollars we charge for talents using the 3-Pay option is used in part to offset the higher costs we've taken on by offering 3-Pay, while keeping our overall pricing structure unchanged for the 4.0 version of our site (and in some cases, lower than before). You can always pay for the inclusion in full, if you choose, and then there is no extra ten bucks.
LINK TO MY PROFILE ON THE SITE
How can I give someone a direct link to my profile and demo on VoiceOver Miami?
That's called Specially Featured Talent, and you'll be given a link that will do just that. Because talents on the site do not have their own URL (a detailed web address tied to you), we create one for you that works off a code number, and it will find you, and only you, on the site. Keep in mind this link will only call up your demo and profile if you are still aboard VoiceOver Miami.
DESCRIPTORS VERSUS CREDITS
What's the difference between Descriptors and Credits, and can I get both?
Descriptors lets you pick three descriptive phrases from a list of 30 that give the visitor a rough idea of your VO style and sound. It's best not to obsess over these when making your choices, as the visitor will hear your demo anyway.
If you have some impressive clients you've done VO jobs for, you can display those instead, by typing them in on the registration form. You can typically get from six to ten in the space allowed, depending on how long they are. Keep in mind that generic wording such as "numerous narrations," "tons of TV promos," "and many more" cannot be used; every word used must be part of the proper name of a client. This option is an extra $30, and can go into 3-Pay. Because Descriptors and Credits occupy the same part of the roster display, you have to go with one or the other.
CASTINGS
Does VoiceOver Miami arrange castings like some of the other voice talent websites?
No, we don't. It's up to the visitor to contact any talents he or she is interested in on our site and individually ask them if they would be willing to do an audition read of the script. (Remember, VO talents should never do a complete read of a script as an audition; do most of it, but not all  so you protect against unauthorized use.)
GRAPHIC ADS
I want to get a graphic display ad. How's that work?
A cool display ad is available to sit next to your roster profile when you get any of the four Premium inclusions.
Premium 1 and 2 get the smaller size, Premium 3 gets the middle size, and Premium 4 gets the biggie. We've designed countless of these ads over the years and will whip one up for you. It's only a $45 design fee for Premium 1, and it's free for Premiums 2, 3 and 4. You can give us an idea of what you have in mind, and supply a photo (or not), a logo (or not), or anything else. But once we cut loose with the building process, the final design is up to us.
If you want more creative control over your ad, you can hire your own designer and send the ad in to us, via the registration form's Upload screen, or by email. Keep in mind, the ad must have a totally professional look to it, and can't appear 'homemade.' Also, the ad must not contain any of your contact information or web address, because that's already on display right next to where the ad will be seen! Also the ad must be one of the following sizes, based on inclusion chosen;
Premium 1 Inclusion: 515 pixels wide by 258 pixels high
Premium 2 Inclusion: 515 pixels wide by 258 pixels high
Premium 3 Inclusion: 515 pixels wide by 333 pixels high
Premium 4 Inclusion: 515 pixels wide by 515 pixels high
An ad appears and when first visiting the site. How do I get that for my ad?
You ad will be on continuous display next to your profile on the site. But it will also take its turn being Ad of the Day, where it will be shown about 20% larger on one of the first screens of the site. About 10 seconds of your demo will automatically plan while your ad is displayed as Ad of the Day. Please note that if a visitor to the site returns in less than three hours, they aren't shown the Ad of the Day again, but instead go right to the Control Panel screen. After three hours, a return visit will again display the AD of the Day.
Can I run my VoiceOver Miami ad on my own site or on another group voice talent site?
Not if we design it. The graphic ads used on VoiceOver Miami that are designed by us are, and remain, copyrighted by us and may not be used anywhere else other than VoiceOver Miami. If you have your own designer make the ad and send it to us, of course, you own it completely and can use it anywhere you wish.
CHANGES TO MY PROFILE
How do I make a change in my profile during my year on the site?
Log in to your account:
Â
www.talentportalsite.com
...with your four digit passcode.
If you're a current talent on the site you'll see your current profile immediately. Follow the easy instructions to jump to the screen in the registration form where the info was originally entered, and you can make the change there. You'll see the change right away when you return to your account screen. But you won't see it immediately on the site. That has to be done by us manually and may take a full day before it's showing.
